Salem Witch Trials

1.The trials took place in Feb. 1692 (sixteen ninety two), and lasted until Apr. 1693 (over a year).

2. The Trials took place in the town of Salem, in the Massachussetts Bay Colony.

3. It's a very religious colony. A governor (appointed by the King, établi par le Roi) leads the town and the colony.

4. 160 people were accused.

5. 25 died. 

6. hundreds of people were involved (impliqués).

II (1st paragraph)

1. There were conflicts among villagers about the ministers. Reverend Parris had not been paid for months.

2. It started with the accusations of two young girls. They had fits (des crises). People were afraid.

3. People probably remembered the Godwin case, where a young boy had fits and accused a woman of being a witch.

b. Dr. Griggs is the first who mentioned witchcraft : "the evil eye"

c. they were among the social elite of the village. 

d.  They were poor and on their own (toutes seules). 

e. Tituba was the one who accused more people of being accomplices (complices). The case (l'affaire) turned into a conspiracy.
