Gun Control 2 group B

Gun culture in the US, why ? Is it because it's legal ? -> it's also legal in other countries, like France (for police/army, hunters, and sport shooters). Is it because it helps hunting big animals ? It could be, but most guns are ineffective against big game ( le gros gibier ).  Is it because of self-defense ? Partly yes. The 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution declares : A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.     The  US Constitution is almost seen as a holy text in the USA. Its prescriptions are respected and are what guarantees the unity of the country. -> E pluribus unum carry and conceal

... Correction... IIc. Right : "[...] lawmakers are expressing interest in revisiting state gun laws." III a. Clark Aposhian is for guns at school because he said "just one person with one firearm and perhaps one bullet could have saved the children [of Sandy Hook]." b. Jennilee Smith is for guns at school, because she said "if someone in S.H. would have had a gun then they could have stopped the shooter." c. IV Sandy Hook was a school shooting where many children died. It shocked the whole country. V. c. A weapon nobody can see. After correcting the questions, we talked about the feeling of fear : a majority of parents support the idea that the teachers of their kids should have a gun. Fear after the Sandy Hook shooting might have led them to change their minds. Conne(c)ticut / Arkansa(s) / Missour...

Gun Control 3 A

Today we talked about a terrible phenomenon called school shootings . The USA have experienced many of them these last few years. Some of the most infamous school shootings took place in Columbine and Virginia Tech. Yet, these places are supposed to be gun free zones . We tried and thought about possible solutions about these. Here are what we imagined : banning guns armed guards in every school stopping bringing guns at school controlling students cops can sensitize students about guns avoid selling guns to underage customers Then we started reading a text about this issue ( problem ), and we tried and completed a series of exercises. Here's the correction : I a. safer b. reviewing c. perhaps d. locked down II a. Wrong : the poll is about asking people's opinion. Gun Control 1 gr. B

Today we started a new sequence with a passage from a movie entitled ( called ) Falling Down (1992). Here's what we understood : It's a fast-food restaurant, a customer wants breakfast. The cashier was condescending.  The customer calls the girl and her manager by their names, but he doesn't know them. The man keeps on asking for his food. The manager (Rick) is condescending too. The man is a bit sad because of his breakfast. Here are what we imagined could happen next : Maybe the customer will get out / The customer might get out . Maybe Sheila will prepare breakfast after all. Sheila could prepare it. Maybe they're going to fight. They're likely to fight. Maybe he's going to get a gun off his bag. He must have guns ni his bag. Maybe he'll play mind tricks. He's not likely to play mind tricks. Maybe he has tons of money in his bag. He cannot have money in his bag. "The customer is always right' -> Le client est roi to escalate = augmenter (...

Gun Control 1 gr A

Today we studied a passage from a 1992 movie entitled (=called) Falling Down .  We stopped the video several times ( plusieurs fois ) and wondered : What's going to happen next ? A man wants breakfast in a fast food restaurant, but it's too late. He doesn't ask the manager why there is no breakfast on the menu, but he just asks the manager if it's possible to have a breakfast. He didn't say it, but we feel that he thinks, "I didn't eat/haven't eaten this morning, I'm hungry." He also checks his watch, the time limit is just a few minutes off. The manager starts being angry and disrespectful, and we believed the customer would make a scene. After a while, the customer takes out a bag. What is in the bag ? (money / guns to menace/threaten the manager / a costume ?) The customer uses a gun to have the menu, and he's mad because the burger is "miserable," and it's not the same as in the ad picture.     Vocab Homework a school s...
