Salem Interrogations
1. What type of document is this ? It's a historical dialogue taken from a trial (the Salem Witch Trials). 2. It takes place in March 1692, in Salem village. The broad (general) context is that of witch-hunting. 3. In doc 1, the accused Sarah Good, judge W. Stoughton and his two assitants are part of the document. In doc. 2, the judge and the assistants are the same. Sarah Good is replaced with Rebekah Nurse, and there's also Abigail and Thomas Puttman's wife who speaks, and Ann Puttman just reacts to what the judge was saying. 4. It seems like the judge was not really impartial, he acted like a lawyer with suspicious questions, not like a judge : "What creature do you imploy (sic) then?" The rule of the judge is to discover if the accused is guilty or not ; here, he just accuses Sarah Good again and again. Her reaction is quite simple : she keeps on repeating she's innocent. The assistants wrote that she was rebellious. R. Nurse's answers were religious.
